Our condolences to the family and friends of Bruce Rossmeyer, a pillar of the biker community and philanthropist with few equals, who recently died in a motorcycle accident while attending the 69th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
Welcome to insideBIKEWEEK, the web site with coverage of the lifestyle of motorcycle enthusiasts emphasizing the Florida scene and especially Daytona Bikeweek and Biketoberfest®. We here at insideBIKEWEEK (iB) know that a “biker” has different connotations to different people. Bikers have diverse backgrounds, likes, dislikes and they ride multifarious styles of machines making each individual unique. No longer is the motorcycle rider perceived solely as a rebel like Johnny Strabler (Marlon Brando) in the 1953 movie, The Wild One*. We recognize this and while we do not believe that one site could be a perfect fit for all bikers, we will attempt to appeal to as large a base of riders (and passengers) as possible through comprehensive coverage of not only the biker events and lifestyle but also through a veritable cornucopia of other topics that we hope will be interesting to many of you visiting this site.
We at insideBIKEWEEK are a visual group so we have a heavy emphasis on photographs in our coverage of the biker scene. Not only photographs of the machines, accessories, venues and activities but of the bikers themselves - the people - those who make the biker community what it is. And unlike most other sights on the web, our images will be large enough that you can actually see the details of what you are looking at.
If you are like us at insideBIKEWEEK, you realize that the Internet has its benefits, such as “instantaneous” coverage of news and events but you also like to have something that you can hold in your hands, caress the smoothness with your fingertips, physically and visually be stimulated — WHOA, get your mind out of the gutter. We are talking about the insideBIKEWEEK book. This book preserves the emotions, the actions, the feelings of the bikers in a visually stimulating format to be relived over and over each time you pick it up and turn the pages from one scene to the next. The adventure of the activities can be lived, through the photos and descriptions, by those who wish they had been there and relived indefinitely by those who actually were there.
* Scene and line from "The Wild One": a local, Mildred (played by Peggy Maley) asks Brando’s character Johnny, “What’re you rebellin’ against, Johnny?” Johnny’s (Marlon Brando’s) reply, “Whaddya you got?”
